The heart of the village

The Ship has proudly sat at the heart of the small, picturesque village of Upavon in Wiltshire since 1866.

Complete with thatched roof, low beams, and an open log fire in winter. The lovely beer garden with wood-fired pizza is perfect for catching up with friends. Our food is fresh and our ales are local.

The village is set in the sweeping Vale of Pewsey, on the edge of Salisbury Plain, 10 miles north of the World Heritage Site of Stonehenge.

Surrounded by rolling chalk hills and the River Avon, it’s one of the county’s most picturesque spots. Though Wiltshire is often overlooked by travellers, it remains a timeless and captivating place with much to explore.

Taking over at the helm, Chris & Dionne arrived in the spring of 2025, setting The Ship on a new course, upholding tradition, history and local values along the way.

Giving a warm and friendly welcome to all our customers – from our faithful regulars, to visitors passing through, to those who pop in on occasions to catch up on village gossip or while away an hour or two. The Ship is truly a place where “everybody knows your name”.

Looking ahead to the spring of 2026, we are excited about the opening of our new Kitchen, whilst the main part of The Ship will be given a well considered refurbishment.

“Upholding the value of village life, the pub serves as our gathering place”
